Teeth Replacements

Dental Crown

Dental crown are a versatile solution used to restore the shape, strength, and appearance of teeth that are damaged, decayed, or after root canal treatment. Tooth crown, often called “caps,” fully cover the entire visible portion of a tooth, providing structure and protection while blending seamlessly with your natural teeth.

Why Consider a Dental Crown?

  • Restoration: Ideal for teeth weakened by decay, cracks, or wear and tear.
  • Protection: Crown encase the vulnerable tooth, shielding it from further damage.
  • Cosmetic Enhancement: They can also improve the appearance of discoloured or poorly shaped teeth.
  • Post-Root Canal: Used to restore a tooth after a root canal, when the tooth is more susceptible to fracture.

The Crown Placement Procedure:

  • The procedure starts with a thorough examination to determine if a crown is the best option for your dental needs. This will include X-rays to assess the tooth’s roots and surrounding bone.
  • The tooth is reshaped to ensure a proper fit for the crown. An impression of your tooth is then taken to create a custom crown, matched similar colour to your natural teeth.
  • A temporary crown is placed to protect the tooth while your permanent crown is being made.
  • Once your custom crown is ready, the temporary crown is removed, and the new crown is adjusted for a perfect fit and bite. It’s then cemented into place, fully restoring your tooth.

Your new crown can last many years with proper care, contributing to a healthy, beautiful smile.

Dental Bridge

Dental bridge are a durable and aesthetic solution for replacing one or more missing teeth. By anchoring to the natural teeth or implants on either side of the gap, a bridge consists of one or more false teeth, known as pontics, which literally “bridge” the space. This restoration not only restores the appearance of your smile but also prevents the remaining teeth from shifting, which can lead to bite and other oral health problems.

When to Consider a Dental Bridge

  • Ideal for replacing one or more missing teeth.
  • Helps keep the remaining teeth in place.
  • Improves chewing and speaking affected by missing teeth.
  • Fills gaps in your smile with teeth that look and feel natural.

The Process

The process begins with a thorough evaluation to determine if a bridge is the best solution for your needs. This might include discussing your options and taking impressions or digital scans of your mouth.

The teeth adjacent to the gap, known as abutments, are prepared by reshaping them to support the bridge.

A temporary bridge may be placed to protect the exposed teeth and gums while the custom tooth bridge is being crafted.

Once your teeth bridge is ready, the temporary crowns/bridge is removed, and the new bridge is adjusted to ensure a perfect fit. It’s then securely cemented into place.

After Care

Maintaining a dental bridge involves good oral hygiene, including regular brushing and flossing.

Special care should be taken to clean underneath the pontic to prevent plaque build-up and ensure the health of the anchoring teeth and gums.

Regular dental check-ups are also essential to monitor the bridge’s condition and the surrounding teeth’ health.

Dentures

Dentures are a practical solution for replacing missing teeth, designed to restore the function and appearance of your natural smile. These removable appliances can replace a few missing teeth (partial dentures) or an entire set (complete dentures), depending on your needs. Dentures not only enhance your smile and facial structure but also improve your ability to eat and speak comfortably.

Considering Dentures? Here's What You Need to Know

  • Complete Dentures: Ideal for when all teeth are missing, resting directly on the gums.
  • Partial Dentures: Used when some natural teeth remain, attaching to existing teeth with clasps.
  • Immediate Dentures: Sometimes offered immediately after tooth extraction, providing a temporary solution while your gums heal.
